In the close season of 2022 Whitstable Town Football Club worked in partnership with Velocity Sports Ltd to install a FIFA certified 3G stadium pitch at the Belmont Stadium.
The club and Velocity partnered through the planning and design process whilst the club finalised the funding, the overall process was in excess of 12 months and after the necessary consents and finances were in place, works finally started on site in May 2022.
The new pitch works included a large topsoil shift, significant cut and fill earthworks, retaining walls, a SUDS compliant drainage system and a fully engineered base with porous macadam which topped with a high quality and dense monofilament 3G surface from specialist artificial grass manufacturers LANO.
As well as the playing surface the club invested, thanks to part funding from the FA’s Football Stadia Improvement Fund (FSIF), in new perimeter walkways, LED floodlighting, spectator rail fencing and new sports equipment.
The new pitch was certified to FIFA Quality Pro standards upon completion and in place for the club’s preseason programme.
