Lilleshall, one of the UK’s National Sports Centres, provides world-class sporting facilities for the local community and some of the country’s highest ability sportsmen and women.
Following a competitive tender process and building on the valued existing relationship developed through the project at Bisham Abbey, Velocity Sports were selected to carry out the refurbishment of the centre’s water-based hockey pitch.
With limited available the project was scheduled and carried out in February 2024, leading to extremely testing working conditions.
Despite this, the contract was successfully completed in March to allow an international tournament to take place on the pitch following completion.
Overseen by leading independent sports pitch consultants and test house, Sportslabs, the high profile project consisted of:
- The removal and recycling of the old water-based carpet and shockpad.
- Base remediation to bring the pitch within the tolerances of FIH standards.
- Installation of a new wet pour rubber shockpad.
- Installation of a new Lano S-Tec Solution fully synthetic artificial grass surface.
- Testing to FIH Global, the highest available accreditation of its type.
The successfully refurbished facility was completed by the end of March 2024, under the allocated budget and completed within 4 weeks.
