The close season of 2024 saw Velocity Sports Ltd revisiting Aveley FC, to upgrade their artificial surface to a FIFA Quality Pro system in the main stadium at Parkside.
The original pitch had been constructed by Velocity back in 2016/17 and even with considerable club and community usage, was still admirably performing to FIFA Quality standards.
However following the club’s back-to-back promotions in 2021/22 and 2022/23 which saw them rise from the Isthmian League to the National League South the club needed to upgrade their pitch to meet NLS Step 2 ground grading requirements which meant achieving and maintaining the very highest FIFA standards.
The new playing surface incorporating a shockpad underlay to provide a greater level of player comfort and consistency, this and a dense, high-quality surface from Belgian specialist manufacturer LANO are key in achieving Quality Pro standards ongoing.
The works which were planned in 2023 and executed in 2024, involved the full removal and recycling of the existing surface and infill material, which saw 220t of material reused at another sporting venue – a great story for the club and indicative of Velocity’s commitment to operating a sustainable approach.
The existing base was still in great condition and the project was completed within 4 weeks to ensure the facility was back in use for the club’s preseason programme.
