University of Sussex – Velocity Sports

University of Sussex Construction of new 3G pitch

down

Velocity Sports have delivered an elite standard dual code 3rd Generation all weather pitch facility to the University of Sussex, a fine addition to the renown Falmer Sports Complex in Brighton.

Works commenced on the Design & Build contract in earnest in Autumn 2018 with the aim to have the pitch ready and in use by Spring 2019.

Given the majority of the works were programmed over the winter months Velocity took the decision to stabilise the formation with lime and cement to reduced lorry movements and ensure a firm base to work from.

The project included a number of ancillary items including retaining structures, 10m high perimeter fencing, a state-of-the-art LED lighting system and a bespoke 48m long covered spectator canopy.

Prior to handover to a delighted client the new artificial pitch was successfully tested to FIFA Quality and World Rugby standards.

The new pitch and older sand-dressed surface next door are now maintained by Velocity Sports in-house maintenance division.

"The pitch was built at a difficult time of year weather wise however the quality of the workmanship and the attention to detail was spot on and it was clear Velocity took pride in delivering to a high specification. They were flexible in adapting to change and ensured the programme stayed on track throughout the build. I would have no hesitation in recommending them."
