In early 2017 Velocity carried out the re-construction of an existing all-weather sports pitch at the Brache Arena, the new training ground of Luton Town FC.
This project involved the design and re-construction artificial grass hockey pitch that had reached the end of its useful life.
The existing sand dressed pitch was heavily contaminated, had numerous undulations across it and was no longer draining at the required level.
However, the club appreciated that with a refurbishment the area could still provide a valuable all-weather training area for the academy.
As a result, the club commissioned Velocity to remove the existing sand based surface, install new drainage, re-grade and supplement the existing stone base.
This ensured the pitch was now free draining and the tolerances were back within the FIFA parameters.
Once an engineered macadam base had been installed a new 23mm shockpad was laid and the Saltex DROP 4009 3G surface was installed.
Once infilled with kilned dried sand and specialist SBR infill, the field was then tested and certified to FIFA Quality Pro standards, the highest accreditation possible for a superb new facility.
