King’s Ely has completed a £400,000 refurbishment of its synthetic sports pitch.
The significant project was carried out by Velocity Sports overseen by specialist design and management consultants Surfacing Standards.
As well as the replacement sand dressed all-weather playing surface being replaced, a new shockpad has been fitted, new perimeter sports fencing and dugouts.
Works began in July 2021 with the removal of the existing surfacing system, perimeter fencing and construction of dedicated storage and spectator areas.
Provision for a future lighting upgrade was then installed with high level rigid panel perimeter and security fencing and surfacing works following on.
The project was handed back to the school in September 2021 with the pitch being independently certified to FIH standards upon completion, one of only a handful in the area to achieve this recognised standard.

“This is the first major refurbishment of our astro since its opening, and I am delighted that it has restored the facility to be one of the best in the region, and one which matches the commitment and ability of our students and sports coaches.”
