Carshalton Athletic FC New 3G pitch for 2015/16 season

Velocity Sports Ltd recently replaced the existing natural turf pitch at the War Memorial Sports Ground with a FIFA 2* certified 3rd Generation artificial grass football pitch.

The project was the result of the vision and hard work of club owner Paul Dipre who successfully appealed an initial planning rejection from Sutton Borough Council.

After an extensive tender process, which included discharging the relevant planning conditions, Carshalton Athletic selected Velocity Sports for the scheme and works started in the close season.

An extensive initial earthworks phase, including removal and disposal of the existing topsoil and a balanced cut and fill operation to reduce the 2m slope was executed as the pitch took shape.

The specialist drainage solution and base stone was added next with perimeter kerbing and retaining structure to ensure a seamless tie in.

The surface, provided by FIFA preferred producers Saltex was then installed and subsequently tested to FIFA 2* standards as per the contractual arrangement.

The end result is absolutely superb and has provided Carshalton Athletic FC with a highly valuable asset which is regularly used by the substantial and very successful youth section right up to first team level, who operate in the Ryman League South.
