Abingdon School – Velocity Sports

Abingdon School Artificial Grass Tennis courts for New Term

down

In the summer of 2016 Velocity Sports were commissioned by Abingdon School to construct a block of 4 artificial grass tennis courts.

The development area was an underutilised natural grass play area which was surrounded by trees and so particular care had to be taken to ensure construction methodology was compliant with the tree officers report.

The project comprised earthworks, drainage, stone placement and works in the designated tree protection areas progressed using cell web and a specialised non-invasive aluminium edging.

The facility was then topped with a twin layer porous macadam surface, laid to an extremely tight tolerance and overlaid with an elite level 15mm pile texturised monofilament tennis surface.

The courts were secured by a 3m high twinbar super rebound fencing system which included in built goals for football and a hockey kickboard.

Abingdon were delighted with a tremendous new asset adding to their already impressive sports facilities and such was the success of the contract, Abingdon welcomed Velocity back the following summer to construct a similar facility at their Preparatory School
